Author Guidelines
Thank you for submitting to the Derna University Journal of Medical Sciences.
Before You Begin
Check the Scope: Ensure your manuscript fits the specific scope of the journal (Medical or Applied Sciences). Refer to the "About the Journal" section.
Originality: The work must be original, not previously published, and not currently under consideration by another journal.
Language: Manuscripts must be written in clear, professional English. (Arabic submissions must include an English Title and Abstract).
Fees: This is a free Open Access journal. There are no Article Processing Charges (APCs).
Manuscript Preparation
To ensure a double-blind peer-review process, you must prepare and upload two separate files:
A. The Title Page (File 1)
This file must contain all author details to be visible only to the Editor. It should include:
1. Title: Full title of the manuscript.
2. Authors: Full names, academic degrees, and institutional affiliations for all authors.
3. Corresponding Author: Name and active email address.
4. ORCID iDs: (Mandatory for the corresponding author).
5. Declarations: Conflict of interest statement, funding sources, and acknowledgments.
B. The Main Manuscript (File 2)
This file is what the reviewers will see. It must be anonymized (contain no author names or affiliations). It should include:
1. Title, Abstract, and Keywords.
2. Main Text: Organized (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion).
3. References:
For Medical Journal: Use Vancouver Style.
4. Tables and Figures: Embedded within the text or placed at the end.
3. Submission Process via OJS
1. Register/Login: Create an account or log in, then click "Make a Submission".
2. Step 1 (Start): Select the submission language, read the Submission Checklist, and agree to the Copyright Notice.
3. Step 2 (Upload Submission):
Upload the Main Manuscript and select "Article Text" from the dropdown menu.
Upload the Title Page and select "Title Page" (This ensures it is not sent to reviewers).
4. Step 3 (Enter Metadata):
Copy/Paste the Title and Abstract into the boxes.
Add all contributing authors using the "Add Contributor" button.
Enter Keywords.
5. Step 4 (Confirmation): Review your submission details and click "Finish Submission".
Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.
Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.
An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet the minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise, and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.
General Requirements:
Manuscripts must be written in clear English.
The submission file is in Microsoft Word format.
ORCID: Providing an ORCID ID is mandatory for all authors.
Manuscript Structure:
1. Title Page: Title, Author names, Affiliations, and Corresponding Author email.
2. Abstract: Structured (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion) – Max 250 words.
3. Keywords: 3-6 keywords (MeSH terms preferred).
4. Main Text: Organized according to IMRaD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion).
5. Declarations: Conflict of Interest, Funding, Ethical Approval.
6. References: Must follow the Vancouver Citation Style. Authors are encouraged to include DOIs for references where available.

Once you begin, you can save your submission and come back to it later. You will be able to review and correct any information before you submit.
Submission Checklist
All submissions must meet the following requirements.
- This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
- This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
- All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
- All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
- Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
Upload Files
Provide any files our editorial team may need to evaluate your submission. In addition to the main work, you may wish to submit data sets, conflict of interest statements, or other supplementary files if these will be helpful for our editors.
Contributors
Add details for all of the contributors to this submission. Contributors added here will be sent an email confirmation of the submission, as well as a copy of all editorial decisions recorded against this submission.
If a contributor can not be contacted by email, because they must remain anonymous or do not have an email account, please do not enter a fake email address. You can add information about this contributor in a message to the editor at a later step in the submission process.
Copyright Notice
Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:
1. Retention of Rights: Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).
2. User Rights: This license allows others to remix, tweak, and build upon the work non-commercially, and although their new works must also acknowledge the original author and be non-commercial, they do not have to license their derivative works on the same terms.
3. Restrictions: The material cannot be used for commercial purposes without prior written permission from the author or the journal.
4. Additional Agreements: Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
